Privately Funded Surgery/Treatment Overseas

The Scottish Government and Public Health Scotland do not recommend travel overseas for privately funded surgery and/or treatment.

Recent guidance from the Scottish Government in January 2023 states that there is no obligation for the NHS to provide pre and post-operative care.

All care required should be provided within the package of care sold by the overseas provider. If you require routine care or follow-up upon return to Scotland, you will be required to pay for this via the private sector.
